⚠️ What not to sayDon't get defensive, and don't say "I'm allowed to judge because I'm saved." Never pronounce anyone's eternal destiny. Admit you're a sinner too, and point to God's standard rather than your own.

Read the Context (Matthew 7:1-5):
Jesus forbids hypocritical, condemning judgment—measuring others by a standard you excuse in yourself. Verse 5 shows the goal: remove the plank from your own eye so you can help your brother with his speck. In the same chapter Jesus tells us to recognize false prophets "by their fruits" (7:15-20)—which requires discernment.

Righteous Judgment vs. Self-Righteous Judgment:
Jesus said, "Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment" (John 7:24). Everyone makes moral judgments—about racism, abuse, theft, lying. What belongs to God alone is the final verdict on a person's soul: "There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?" (James 4:12).

Relativism Refutes Itself:
"It's wrong to judge" is itself a moral judgment. And nobody lives it consistently: if someone stole your phone, you would want a judge who judges.

I'm Not the Judge—I'm a Fellow Sinner with Good News:
I'm not saying I'm better than you. I have broken God's Law too. As one pastor put it, evangelism is one beggar telling another beggar where to find bread. God "has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness" (Acts 17:31)—so the loving thing is to help each other get ready. That's a natural bridge to the Ten Commandments and the Cross.

You can sayI'm not judging you—I'm telling you what God says about all of us, and I include myself. If a doctor shows you an X-ray with a tumor, he isn't judging you; he's trying to save your life. I'd be a poor friend if I saw the danger and said nothing.

They say“Jesus hung out with sinners and never condemned anyone—like the woman caught in adultery.”

You can sayHe did welcome sinners—thank God, or I'd be lost. But He welcomed them to change. To that woman He said, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more" (John 8:11). Both halves matter. Jesus never said sin doesn't matter; He said it can be forgiven.
