Virtually every historian of antiquity—Christian or not—agrees Jesus existed and was crucified under Pilate. The "copycat" parallels rely on late sources or on details that don't appear in the ancient myths at all.

And if even Bart Ehrman—an agnostic scholar who wrote a whole book on this question—concludes that Jesus certainly existed, why do you think virtually all historians agree?”

Non-Christian Sources:

Tacitus (Annals 15.44, c. AD 116): "Christus" was executed by Pontius Pilate during the reign of Tiberius.
Josephus (Antiquities 20.200, c. AD 93) mentions "James, the brother of Jesus who was called Christ." His longer passage (18.63-64) was likely touched up by Christian copyists, but most scholars accept its core.
Pliny the Younger (Letters 10.96, c. AD 112) reports that Christians met before dawn and sang "a hymn to Christ, as to a god."

Paul's Early Letters:
Paul wrote between about AD 48 and 60. He met Peter and "James, the Lord's brother" (Galatians 1:18-19), and passes on a creed (1 Corinthians 15:3-7) that most scholars date to within a few years of the crucifixion. Myths don't have brothers you can go and meet.

The Scholarly Consensus:
Bart Ehrman, an agnostic New Testament scholar, wrote Did Jesus Exist? (2012) specifically to answer the myth theory, concluding that Jesus certainly existed. The idea that Jesus never lived is rejected by virtually all specialists in ancient history, Christian and non-Christian alike.

The Copycat Claims Fall Apart:
Most of these claims trace back to 19th-century popular writers and internet films, not ancient texts. In Egyptian myth, Horus was conceived by Isis from the dead Osiris—not a virgin birth—and he was never crucified. Most of our evidence for the Roman cult of Mithras comes from after the New Testament was written. Even scholars who argue that some ancient gods "died and rose" find no evidence that the Gospel accounts were borrowed from them. And the first Christians were monotheistic Jews who abhorred idolatry and called pagan converts to turn "from idols to serve the living and true God" (1 Thessalonians 1:9)—they would hardly build their faith on Egyptian or Persian myths.

You can sayMost scholars agree Christian copyists added to Josephus' longer passage, but they also accept a core—and his second mention, "James, the brother of Jesus who was called Christ" (Antiquities 20.200), is widely accepted as authentic. Tacitus was a careful Roman historian who despised Christianity as a "mischievous superstition." Even if he learned it from Christians, it shows that by AD 116 Rome knew Jesus as an executed man, not a myth.

They say“There are no eyewitness records of Jesus written during his lifetime.”

You can sayThat's true of almost everyone in the ancient world. Jesus was a Galilean craftsman and teacher, not an emperor. For comparison, the earliest surviving biographies of Alexander the Great were written about 400 years after his death. For Jesus, we have Paul's letters within 20-30 years, naming eyewitnesses who were still alive—including Jesus' own brother. For ancient history, that is remarkably early.

They say“Horus and Mithras still share lots of similarities with Jesus—virgin birth, twelve followers, resurrection.”

You can sayAsk for the primary source. Horus was conceived by Isis with the dead Osiris—not a virgin birth—had no twelve disciples, and wasn't crucified. The Mithras cult we know from Rome dates mostly after the Gospels. Loose parallels exist across cultures, but the Gospels are set in real places, under named rulers, about a Jewish Messiah executed by Roman crucifixion. Myths don't read like that.
