17 – Witchcraft / Divination
Bible Verses
Exodus 22:18 – “Do not allow a sorceress to live.” (NIV)
Leviticus 19:31 – “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.” (NIV)
Leviticus 20:27 – “A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.” (NIV)
Deuteronomy 18:10 – “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” (NIV)
1 Samuel 15:23 – “For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” (NIV)
Ezekiel 18:23 – “Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?”(ESV)
Discussion
Witchcraft, sorcery, necromancy, divination, and all other forms of magic are all seen as rebellion towards God or works of the flesh. Seeking supernatural sources or realms rather than God for guidance, wisdom, and knowledge. In the book of (Acts 16:16-18), Paul and Silas met a female slave who had a “spirit of divination.” In the original Greek, this translates to “spirit of python.” Paul cast it out of the girl because it was a demonic or unclean spirit associated with false religion.
Even though information obtained through these sources can have some truth, the information is coming from an impure source and is an abomination to God. Prophecy comes only from God; Divination comes from other sources and is false or deceptive.
Prayer
Father God, please forgive me for any rebellion or works of the flesh. Please forgive me for any ways that I have sought guidance, wisdom, and knowledge from any other supernatural source or realm rather than You, God. I repent and renounce and break every generational curse of rebellion, witchcraft, divination, sorcery, necromancy, mediums, psychics, fortune tellers, horoscopes, astrology, the python spirit, the coiling serpent, and any other demonic or unclean spirits associated with these practices. I ask you, God, to nullify and break the power of every spell, hex, vex, incantation, psychic prediction, palm or tarot card reading, taboo, voodoo, jinxes, chants, word curses, black magic, white magic, Santeria, all party games involving witchcraft or divination including Ouija board, light as a feather, stiff as a board, bloody Mary or any other demonic things that I participated in, knowingly or unknowingly. I close every demonic portal that I opened and seal it with the Blood of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
