The Quran's Own Description:
Surah 4:171 calls Jesus "His Word which He directed to Mary and a spirit from Him." In classical Sunni theology (the Ash'ari and Hanbali schools), the speech of Allah (Kalam Allah) is uncreated and eternal. Muslims usually answer that Jesus is called "a word" because he was created by Allah's command "Be!" (Surah 3:59)—yet of all the prophets, Jesus alone bears this title.
