If you were to walk through the pages of the Old Testament, you would notice something happening over and over again. Whenever a man or woman really wanted to meet with God, they didn't just look up at the sky. They built something. They did something at a station. Do you know what that was? Their built an altar.
Now, when we hear the word "altar," we tend to think of a pile of rocks that you offer a sacrificed animal on. But the purpose and meaning of an alter and is much more profound. I want you to think of the altar as a Business Table between 2 realms. Heaven and Earth. It's a place where transactions happens. A place of trade. The altar is the place where the visible world meets the invisible world, and a swap takes place. You put something on the altar or table, and God puts gives something back.
You put a sacrifice on the altar. For example, if you're fasting, that means you put your food on the Altar. If you're tithing that means you put your wallet on the Altar. If you're serving God, then you're putting your time and effort on the Altar.
But here is the beautiful mystery of the Kingdom: The math doesn't make sense. It is completely rigged in your favor. You see, at the Altar, at God’s table, the items you put on are only "Temporary." But what you get back is eternal.
Your time, your money, your energy, are only temporary. But what God gives back "Eternal." Like spiritual authority and His Kingdom. It is the best business deal you will ever make. Your rags for His Riches.
Take tithing, for example. Some people think it’s just paying a bill. No, friends, it’s an altar transaction! You are taking your wallet—something temporary, something that passes away—and you are laying it on the altar. In exchange, God releases a spiritual protection and blessing over your life that money can't buy.
Take fasting. That’s when you take your stomach—your temporary hunger, your need for comfort—and you lay it down. You say, "God, I’m putting my appetite on the table." And in return? He feeds your spirit. He gives you eyes to see and ears to hear.
A person's spiritual maturity is determined by what he will place on the Altar. Imature Christians won't give God anything. Mature Christians will give God whatever He asks, like Abrham did. You cannot hold the hand of God while you are clutching the things of the world.
So if you want to grow as a Christian, spend time at the Altar.
Now, there are many things of God that are not done at the altar, they are not transational. God's Love, for example, can't be earned, it's not translation. Forgiveness, is another example, that was done by Jesus' sacrifice, not yours. But other things of the Kingdom are done at the Altar, and as Christians we need to know how to use the Altar.
But beware, your enemy, Satan, also runs a business table. He also has an altar. But he runs a scam. His transaction is the exact opposite of Jesus. The enemy says, "Give me your eternal things. Give me your integrity. Give me your soul. Give me your destiny." And in exchange? He gives you temporary junk. A moment of pleasure. A bit of fame, a fleeting feeling of pride, a little bit of money.
Think about Jesus in the wilderness. Satan offered Him all the kingdoms of the world. He said, "I’ll give you all this temporary power... if you just bow down and trade me your soul." Satan was trying to get Jesus to trade the Eternal for the Temporary. But Jesus didn’t make that trade, and neither should you.
