Doctrine is about meaning, not vocabulary—"theocracy" isn't in the Bible either. The question is whether the Bible teaches what the word describes: one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

⚠️ What not to sayDon't argue that the word is in the Bible, and don't use 1 John 5:7 ("three that bear witness in heaven")—that wording is missing from nearly all Greek manuscripts. Don't use modalist illustrations. Build the doctrine step by step from Scripture.

Vocabulary vs. Doctrine:
Theological words are summaries of biblical teaching. "Trinity" is the church's one-word summary of what Scripture teaches about God. The term was in use long before Nicaea: Theophilus of Antioch used the Greek trias around AD 180, and Tertullian used the Latin trinitas in the early 200s.

Five Biblical Truths:

There is only one God: "The LORD our God, the LORD is one!" (Deuteronomy 6:4); "besides Me there is no God" (Isaiah 44:6).
The Father is God: "God the Father has set His seal on Him" (John 6:27).
The Son is God: "the Word was God" (John 1:1); "My Lord and my God!" (John 20:28); "Your throne, O God, is forever" (Hebrews 1:8); "our great God and Savior Jesus Christ" (Titus 2:13).
The Holy Spirit is God, and a Person: lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God (Acts 5:3-4); the Spirit speaks and says "separate to Me Barnabas and Saul" (Acts 13:2); He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30).
The three are distinct Persons: the Son is baptized, the Spirit descends, the Father speaks (Matthew 3:16-17); we baptize "in the name [singular] of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19).

Put those five truths together and you have the Trinity—whatever you call it.

Nicaea Didn't Invent It:
The Council of Nicaea (AD 325) defended what the church already believed against Arius, who taught—much like the Watchtower today—that the Son was created. Constantine did not dictate the doctrine; in fact, he later wavered toward the Arian side and was baptized by the Arian-leaning bishop Eusebius of Nicomedia.

They say“Titus 2:13 and John 1:1 are mistranslated in your Bible. The New World Translation separates "the great God" from "our Savior Christ Jesus," and says "the Word was a god."”

You can sayIn Titus 2:13, one Greek article governs both "God" and "Savior"—the same construction as 2 Peter 1:11, "our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," which no one splits into two persons. And if the Word was "a god," there are two gods, a greater and a lesser—yet Jehovah says, "besides Me there is no God" (Isaiah 44:6). Either Jesus is the true God or a false one.

They say“The holy spirit is God's active force, like electricity—not a person. It was "poured out" at Pentecost.”

You can sayScripture uses pictures like wind and pouring to describe the Spirit's power, but it also shows Him speaking ("the Holy Spirit said, Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul," Acts 13:2), teaching (John 14:26), and being grieved (Ephesians 4:30). You can't lie to electricity or grieve a force—and Peter says lying to the Holy Spirit is lying to God (Acts 5:3-4).

They say“Revelation 3:14 calls Jesus "the beginning of the creation by God." So he was created.”

You can sayThe Greek word archē can mean "beginning" or "ruler, origin"—the source of creation. The same book gives Jesus the title "the First and the Last" (Revelation 1:17; 22:13), which Isaiah 44:6 gives to Jehovah. John 1:3 says that without Him "nothing was made that was made." That's why the NWT has to add the word "other" in Colossians 1:16—"all other things"—a word not found in the Greek.
