1 Corinthians 2:4-5 - "And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God."
Combining sound apologetics and a clear Gospel with sensitivity to the Holy Spirit: divine appointments, words of knowledge, praying for the sick on the streets, and Holy Ghost boldness, always with consent, humility, and integrity.
1 The Holy Ghost Empowerment (Acts 1:8)
Dunamis Power
- Evangelism is not a fleshly sales pitch; it is a spiritual battle for human souls.
- "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me..." (Acts 1:8).
- Baptism in the Holy Spirit: Jesus told the disciples to "tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high" (Luke 24:49).
- Pray in the Spirit (tongues) before going into the harvest. It builds you up (Jude 20; 1 Corinthians 14:4) and aligns you with God's heart.
- Boldness: When the early believers were threatened, they did not pray for safety, but: "grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus" (Acts 4:29-30).
🗣️ On the street, say it like this"Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit today. Give me eyes to see what You see, love for every person I meet, and boldness to speak Your truth."
2 Divine Appointments & Words of Knowledge
Listening Ear
- Philip in the desert (Acts 8:26-30): "Then the Spirit said to Philip, 'Go near and overtake this chariot.'"
- Jesus at the well (John 4:16-19): Jesus revealed, "you have had five husbands," and it opened the Samaritan woman's heart. Many in her town believed because of her testimony (John 4:39).
- The Spirit gives "the word of knowledge" (1 Corinthians 12:8). On the street, ask the Holy Spirit:
- "Lord, show me who is hurting."
- Watch for someone crying, someone alone, or a distinct impression of a specific pain or burden.
- Present impressions humbly. "For we know in part and we prophesy in part" (1 Corinthians 13:9). Say, "I may be wrong, but...", and let them respond.
- Never use a "word" to manipulate: not to pressure a decision, claim authority over someone's life, expose private sin in public, or ask for money. "Test all things; hold fast what is good" (1 Thessalonians 5:21).
🗣️ On the street, say it like this"Excuse me, I may be wrong, but as I walked past I sensed God might be highlighting lower back pain, or a heavy burden in your family. Does that mean anything to you? Either way, God sees you."
3 Praying for the Sick: The Biblical Basis
Demonstration
- Jesus sent His disciples out: "And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give" (Matthew 10:7-8).
- "He who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father" (John 14:12).
- The promise of the Spirit is "to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off" (Acts 2:39). The early church prayed for boldness and healing together (Acts 4:29-30). The Spirit still gives "gifts of healings" and "the working of miracles" (1 Corinthians 12:9-10). And "the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up" (James 5:14-15).
- Mark 16:17-18: "And these signs will follow those who believe... they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." Note: Mark 16:9-20 is missing from the two oldest complete manuscripts (Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus), although nearly all other manuscripts contain it. Our practice rests on the whole New Testament, not on this passage alone.
- When you meet someone with a cane, brace, cast, or pain, ask with humility and love:
- "Can I pray for you right now? It only takes 30 seconds."
- Keep the prayer short and in the name of Jesus:
- "In the name of Jesus, pain, leave this knee. Be healed in Jesus' name."
- Test gently: "Try moving it, only as far as is safe. What do you notice?"
🗣️ On the street, say it like this"Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk' (Acts 3:6)."
4 Integrity & Safety in Healing Ministry
Dinner Bell, Not the Meal
- Always ask permission before praying, and ask again before touching. A hand on the shoulder only, and only with consent. Never push or touch anywhere else.
- Never tell anyone to stop medication, skip treatment, or discard a medical aid (glasses, hearing aid, inhaler, cane, brace). Say: "Praise God! Go get it confirmed by your doctor." Jesus Himself sent the healed to be verified: "Go, show yourselves to the priests" (Luke 17:14).
- Never guarantee results, and never blame the person's faith if nothing happens. Paul left Trophimus "in Miletus sick" (2 Timothy 4:20), and God works "according to His own will" (Hebrews 2:4).
- If nothing changes, pray again. Jesus Himself laid hands twice on the blind man at Bethsaida (Mark 8:22-25). Keep loving them, thank them for letting you pray, and share the Gospel anyway.
- Miracles are the dinner bell; the Gospel is the meal. A healed body with an unforgiven soul is still lost.
- Report honestly. Never exaggerate a healing when you tell the story or post online (2 Corinthians 8:21).
🗣️ On the street, say it like this"May I pray for your back? ... Is it okay if I put a hand on your shoulder? ... How is it now? Still the same? Thank you for letting me pray. Could I pray one more time? ... Either way, God loves you, and I'd love to tell you the best news I know."
5 Spiritual Warfare & Breaking Strongholds
The Anointing
- "The god of this age has blinded" the minds of those who do not believe (2 Corinthians 4:4).
- Arguments alone cannot overcome spiritual blindness; "the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil" (Isaiah 10:27).
- "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God" (2 Corinthians 10:4-5).
- Minister with consent and discretion. Never publicly label someone as demonized. Pray for freedom when they ask for it, and connect them with a local church for ongoing care.
- Always follow a miracle with the Gospel of Christ crucified and risen.
