The Cross is NOT Cosmic Child Abuse:
The "cosmic child abuse" accusation assumes the Father is an abusive tyrant punishing an innocent third party. But in Trinitarian theology, Jesus IS God!
2 Corinthians 5:19: "God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself."
On the Cross, God Himself absorbed the penalty of human rebellion. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit acted in complete, mutual self-giving love (John 10:17-18).

Justice Without Wrath is Unjust:
If a human judge looks at a brutal murderer and says "I love everyone so I will punish nothing", we call that judge wicked. God's wrath is His settled, holy opposition to evil and injustice. On the Cross, justice and mercy kissed (Psalm 85:10).

Separating Jesus from Church Hurt:
Don't judge the Physician by the sick patients in the hospital. People will fail you, pastors will fail you, but Jesus will never fail you.

You can sayReal forgiveness always costs the forgiver something—if you forgive a debt, you absorb the loss yourself. God didn't need to be bribed into loving us; the Cross is what His love did (John 3:16; Romans 5:8). Rather than pretend our evil didn't matter, He bore its cost Himself.

They say“Penal substitution was invented by Anselm and the Reformers. The early church believed in Christus Victor—Jesus defeating the powers.”

You can sayThe early church used many pictures—victory, ransom, healing—and I love Christus Victor. But substitution is right there in Isaiah 53:5-6 and 1 Peter 2:24: "who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree." The second-century Epistle to Diognetus rejoices in "the sweet exchange"—the Righteous One for the unrighteous. And the victory comes through dealing with our guilt: He wiped out the record against us and so disarmed the powers (Colossians 2:14-15).
